FlowTutor Live Guide — Browser Extension
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
FlowTutor Live Guide is a browser extension that overlays step-by-step training guidance onto enterprise applications (such as Oracle Cloud, SAP, or Salesforce) for users with an active FlowTutor account.
What this extension does not do
- It does not collect, transmit, or sell personal data to any third party.
- It does not track your browsing history.
- It does not read or transmit the content of pages you visit, except to detect whether the current page matches a label named in your own training content (for highlighting purposes only — this happens locally in your browser and is never sent anywhere).
- It does not display ads or sell data to advertisers.
What this extension does
- Authentication: your email and password are sent directly to Firebase Authentication (Google Cloud) to sign you in. The extension never stores your password — only a short-lived session token managed by Firebase.
- Training data: once signed in, the extension retrieves your assigned training content (steps, narration text, screenshots) from your organisation's FlowTutor database, so it can be displayed to you.
- Narration audio: step narration is requested from FlowTutor's server (via ElevenLabs voice synthesis) and played back locally. Falls back to your browser's built-in text-to-speech if unavailable.
- Local storage: the extension stores your email, session state, and the currently active training in your browser's local storage so your progress persists across page navigations. This data never leaves your device except as described above.
Enterprise / managed deployment
Organisations using Chrome or Edge enterprise policy may push Firebase configuration to the extension automatically (so individual learners don't need to enter it manually). This configuration identifies which organisation's FlowTutor database to connect to — it does not contain personal data.
Data retention
Training progress and account data are retained according to your organisation's FlowTutor account settings, managed by your IT administrator. To request data deletion, contact your organisation's FlowTutor administrator or flowtutor@outlook.com.
Permissions explained
- activeTab / scripting: required to display the training overlay on the page you're currently viewing.
- tabs: required to detect when you navigate to a page relevant to your assigned training, so the overlay can resume.
- storage: required to remember your session and active training locally.
- host permissions (all sites): required because FlowTutor is used across many different enterprise applications (Oracle Cloud, SAP, Salesforce, and others), and the specific URLs vary by customer organisation — they are not known in advance.
